• Currently about 40% of the newsprint that we purchase is recycled paper. We encourage clients to print on recycled paper.
• We recycle all of our paper waste, both sheetstock and newsprint. All newsprint, offset and sheet stocks are ground up and baled. Cores, corrugated and other paper materials are put in separate bins and loaded along with the bales onto a trailer we keep onsite to be brought to the recycling center once a week.
• In 1988 we installed a paper rewinder to recover the unused portion of roll stock by making full rolls.
• We encourage our customers to return unused product to our facility to be recycled and have separate customer recycle bins for their convenience.

• We encourage our customers to take advantage of soft proofing.

• In 1984 we installed a newsprint ink recycle and have been recycling our own ink ever since. Southwest Printers produces 0% news ink waste by reprocessing all the wasted inks into black ink which is then re-used on our Goss Community.
• On our sheetfed presses we installed ink sentinels to fill the ink troughs with just the right amount of ink to minimize wasted ink.
• All of our ink has soy content.

• All aluminum plates from the production process are sent to a recycler.

• We recently installed a recirculation / scrubber on our plate processor which filters then recirculates the developer cutting our developer usage by one third.
• Working closely with our vendors we have chosen chemicals that will have the least impact on the environment.
• All chemicals and chemical rags are kept in properly labeled closed containers.

• By ganging deliveries and planning the route and the time of day to avoid traffic we save gas and minimize carbon emissions from our vehicles.
• Replaced our aging pickup with a more energy efficient one and are planning on doing the same with our 24 foot box truck.

• We are in the process of renovating restrooms and office area with more efficient fixtures and auto flush devices.
• We have replaced all incandescent bulbs with fluorescent bulbs or replaced the fixtures with more energy efficient ones.
• We have cut our air conditioning and heating by joining Nevada Energy's Cool Share Program where they replaced all our old thermostats with new ones which allows NV Energy to control the temperature in our office area during peak hours.
• We are in the process of replacing our old fluorescent in the press area with more efficient ones.
• Working with Republic Services we have instituted an office recycling program.
• Set up bins for used copy paper and employees are encouraged to print on the back side of previously printed paper.
• We have begun installing occupancy sensors in the office area and restrooms.
